Free Outdoor Play Returns – PlayWorks at Pitzhanger Manor

Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery has confirmed the return of PlayWorks for three days this summer. The free, child-led outdoor play sessions will take place on Wednesday 19, Thursday 20 and Friday 21 August 2026 from 11am to 3pm in the walled front garden.

Children are invited to build, invent and explore using giant blocks, cardboard boxes, branches, fabric, flowers and other open-ended materials. There are no set instructions or finished products – the emphasis is entirely on imagination and free play. The sessions are delivered by experienced playworkers from Outdoor People, continuing the approach originally developed by Assemble Play.

The event is completely free. Advance registration is recommended (and free) so organizers can plan capacity, but families can also simply drop in on the day, subject to safe numbers. Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. Activities take place outdoors, so practical clothing suitable for the weather and possible mess is advised.
