Hanwell Town lose 2–0 to Bath City after two early goals

Hanwell Town lost 2–0 at home to Bath City. The visitors scored both goals inside the opening ten minutes, while the hosts struck the woodwork in each half.

Hanwell Town lost 2–0 to Bath City in Saturday’s Southern League Premier South match at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium. The outcome was shaped by a rapid start from the visitors, who scored both goals before the tenth minute.

Bath City took the lead in the second minute. Reuben Reid was brought down about 30 yards from goal and Enzio Boldewijn converted the resulting free kick. Eight minutes later, the visitors built an attack from deep inside their own half. Pedro Elawar supplied the cross and Harry Parsons turned the ball in from around eight yards.

After the frantic opening, the contest became more settled. Hanwell had a considerable share of possession, but Bath City’s report said the home side rarely forced the visiting defence into serious trouble. Hanwell’s best first-half opportunity came in the 25th minute, when a Turner free kick hit the outside of the post. The score remained 2–0 at the interval.

Hanwell threatened again seven minutes after the restart. Snee’s free kick took a touch off Elawar and struck the crossbar. The home side continued to push for a route back into the match, but Bath City’s defence held firm.

The visitors also went close to adding a third goal. In the 70th minute, a Matt Bowman shot at the end of a counterattack was deflected onto the bar. Harrison Minturn and Elawar had further efforts that did not trouble Hanwell goalkeeper Beasant, while Alex Fisher later directed a free header straight at him.

The 2–0 result means Hanwell were unable to extend the positive run that had included an away victory over Taunton Town and a draw with Chertsey Town. For Bath City, it was a fourth consecutive away win. The Bath club also reported that the victory moved its team into a four-way tie for second place in the table.

For supporters in the borough, the main picture is straightforward: Hanwell conceded twice before the game had properly settled and then could not turn their strongest set-piece opportunities into goals. The post before half-time and the crossbar after it show that the hosts did create chances, but the official score remained 2–0.

The result also underlines the cost of the opening ten minutes. Hanwell had most of the match left to respond and spent periods on the front foot, yet Bath City no longer needed to chase the game. The visitors could protect their lead, defend the key moments and use counterattacks when Hanwell committed players forward.
