Hanwell Town win 2–1 at Taunton to end league wait
Hanwell Town beat Taunton Town 2–1 away in the Southern League Premier South. Jordan Esprit converted a penalty, George Knight doubled the lead after the break and the hosts managed only one reply.
Hanwell Town claimed their first league victory since August by beating Taunton Town 2–1 away on Saturday 10 October. The Southern Football League’s official round-up confirms that the result extended Hanwell’s unbeaten league run to three matches while adding to Taunton’s winless sequence.
A penalty brings the breakthrough
The match at Wordsworth Drive kicked off at 3pm. Jordan Esprit scored the opening goal in the 19th minute, converting a penalty awarded after Zak Joseph was fouled. Hanwell retained their 1–0 advantage until half-time.
The club’s report says the visitors continued to look for a second goal after taking the lead. Esprit twice found space on the right and delivered the ball into the penalty area, while Henry Snee had an opportunity after being played through by Joseph but sent his attempt over the bar. Taunton applied pressure late in the first half without finding an equaliser.
A second goal soon after the restart
Hanwell doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half. A deep corner was not collected by the home goalkeeper and George Knight headed in from close range. Both Hanwell Town’s report and the Southern Football League’s round-up identify Knight as the scorer.
Taunton then took greater control of the match. The hosts created several opportunities and had a goal disallowed, but Hanwell’s defence protected the two-goal lead for most of the half. Ben Seymour pulled one back in the 79th minute. The closing stages brought further pressure from Taunton, yet the visitors held on and left with all three points.
The side that protected the lead
Captain Sam Beasant started in goal, with Ibrahiim Sankoh, Dan Carr, Harry Seabrook, Dwayne Duncan, Harry Hoath, Oliver Turner, George Knight, Jordan Esprit, Zak Joseph and Henry Snee also in the starting line-up. Eddie Cooper, Kaleel Green and James Alabi came on during the second half.
What the result changes
The league round-up published on 12 October said Hanwell were 18th after the weekend, while Taunton had fallen to 12th after a fourth match without a win. For the west London side, the change in form is more significant than the position alone: the victory followed two consecutive league draws and delivered Hanwell’s first maximum points since August.
Hanwell Town have little time before their next assignment. The club announced a home match against Chertsey Town on Tuesday 13 October at 7.45pm at the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium. Supporters should check the club’s own channels before travelling because fixtures at this level can change.
