Met Deputy Commissioner visits Southall gurdwara after Hayes murder

On 31 July 2026, Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes visited Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Southall. The visit took place following the tragic murder of 24-year-old Kirandeep Kaur, who was killed on 12 July at a property on Uxbridge Road in Hayes.

During the visit, Jukes met with Sikh community leaders and local officers. He offered condolences to the victim’s family and reaffirmed the Met’s commitment to protecting Sikh communities across London.

In a statement he said:
“I am here today to show the Met’s commitment to Sikh communities right across London. I understand the concern and shock many people have felt following the tragic loss of Kirandeep Kaur, and my thoughts remain with her family. We moved quickly to arrest and charge a suspect. While we do not believe there is any wider threat to the community, we recognise the impact this incident has had, and as a precaution, we have increased local patrols, including around gurdwaras. Our investigators are determined to find all the answers they can to the questions those affected have about what happened to Kirandeep, and why.”
The man charged is 44-year-old Daniel Sean James of Mercer Place, Pinner. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. Criminal proceedings are ongoing.

Police state they do not believe there is any wider threat to the community, but additional patrols around gurdwaras and in the local area have been introduced as a precaution while detectives continue their investigation. Officers are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

For Southall residents, the visit by a senior officer carries symbolic weight – it shows that after a high-profile and painful incident, the police are not limiting themselves to a formal investigation but are actively engaging with the community.
