No District line to Ealing Broadway this weekend: 24–25 October closure
The District line is not running to Ealing Broadway all weekend. TfL is operating route DL1 between Hammersmith and Acton Town, but there is no direct replacement bus into central Ealing.
Planning to use the District line to or from Ealing Broadway this weekend? Trains are not running on the western section serving Ealing on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October. The closure covers services between Edgware Road or Embankment and Ealing Broadway, Kensington (Olympia), Richmond and Wimbledon.
Transport for London confirmed the scope in its planned closures bulletin published on 22 October. The same information was displayed on TfL’s live status page after 7am on Saturday. For Ealing passengers, the key point is that the District line will not provide a route to Ealing Broadway or through the closed section towards central London during the weekend.
Replacement bus in west London
TfL is operating replacement route DL1 between Hammersmith and Acton Town. It calls at Ravenscourt Park, Stamford Brook, Turnham Green, Chiswick Park and Gunnersbury. The service does not continue to Ealing Broadway, so anyone starting or finishing in central Ealing will need to check a separate connection to Acton Town or use another rail or bus route.
TfL also lists route DL3 for the early morning period when the Mildmay line is not operating. It connects Earl’s Court and Richmond via Hammersmith, Turnham Green, Gunnersbury and Kew Gardens. Replacement routes DL4 and DL5 mainly cover the Wimbledon branches. They do not provide a substitute link to Ealing Broadway.
What to do before leaving
The practical approach is to plan the complete journey in TfL’s Journey Planner shortly before travelling, rather than assuming that reaching a normal District line station will be enough. Check the return journey as well, particularly in the evening, because bus frequencies and interchange times may differ from the usual Tube timetable. Allow extra time to find the correct stop and change between services.
At 7.04am on Saturday, TfL’s live page stated that lines not separately listed among the disruptions were operating a good service. That is a snapshot, not a guarantee for the whole weekend. The Central line and Elizabeth line may offer alternatives for some Ealing Broadway journeys, but passengers should verify their current status and the exact route immediately before setting out.
The planned District line closure applies throughout Saturday and Sunday. Replacement buses cover selected parts of the affected network, but TfL does not list a direct replacement bus to Ealing Broadway. The main practical change for local passengers is therefore the need to choose another route into central Ealing in advance or arrange an interchange at Acton Town.
Travel information can change if an unrelated fault or incident occurs. TfL’s status page should be treated as the final check for the time of travel, while the dated planned-closures bulletin confirms that this weekend’s District line suspension was scheduled rather than an unplanned disruption.
