In early June 2026 racist graffiti and at least five swastikas appeared on the green hoardings surrounding the Gurnell Leisure Centre building site in Perivale. The markings included offensive slogans directed at different groups. Ealing Council strongly condemned the act and said the hoardings would be cleaned immediately.

The markings included offensive slogans directed at different groups. Ealing Council strongly condemned the act and said the hoardings would be cleaned immediately. Councillor Lauren Wall, Cabinet Member for Thriving Communities, urged anyone with information about those responsible to contact the Metropolitan Police.
Work on the new leisure centre began after the old facility was demolished. The new building is scheduled to open towards the end of 2027. The graffiti incident occurred during the site preparation stage and was quickly noticed.
Such acts of hate are uncommon in this part of the borough, but any incident of this kind causes concern among residents. Police and the council encourage people to report similar occurrences.
