School year in Northolt and Greenford. Which roads are open again - and until when.

The children are back. Pipes too. Ruislip Road has lights on from today until December. Wood End Lane is closed until Wednesday. Eastcote Lane - gas until November. It's not "one failure". It's a calendar.No one officially closes the street on Shadwell Drive (UB5 6DF). Traffic jams come from the estate bypass: Ruislip Road, A4180, Wood End Lane, Greenford Road, then the A40.

What's on now, for delivery

Ruislip Road, Greenford - from today, September 7, until December 11. Renovation of the road and sidewalk. Lights at intersections. This is the hole you can see coming out of Kingshill/Shadwell towards Greenford Broadway.

A4180 Ruislip Road, Northolt - lights, power, section B455 ↔ Old Ruislip Road. No hard end date in live feed; Expect disruptions at White Hart.

Wood End Lane - Closed in both directions (water), Lancaster Road → A312. Until Wednesday, September 9, midnight.

Greenford Road - lane narrowing, council amendments, until Friday 11 September.

Eastcote Lane - Cadent, gas change. Pendulum September 1 - November 2. Second episode September 2–15. It's north Northolt/Mandeville but you detour as you get away from Ruislip Road.

Windmill Lane, Greenford - Council works until September 20.

Badminton Close - closure under HS2 until April 2027. Mandeville Road: road access under HS2 until end of 2026.

A little further but on the way to school in Ealing/West Ealing

Argyle Road (Thames Water) - works until October 8. The E7 and E11 bypass Sutherland Avenue and West Ealing Station.

Sutherland Avenue / Sutherland Road at Argyle - Closing September 19 - October 8.

A4020 Uxbridge Road, Hanwell - gas, lights at Shirley Gardens until September 9, 6pm.

Cadent, Ealing central: Brunner Road from September 1, approx. 8.5 weeks; Creffield Road from today, approximately 11 weeks (until November). This is Hanger Lane/Broadway access, not Northolt - but whoever takes it further stays.

Why again
Not because anyone likes to put up cones in September. The gas and water pipes in this part of the borough are 50-80 years old. Cadent replaces the net before it breaks in winter. Affinity and Thames patch mains after dry summer. The council does a "remedial" - that is, it improves what others have dug up or what was not maintained after the previous season. HS2 has been sitting on Mandeville and Badminton Close for years and won't leave until 2027.

Effect for the parent: three companies, three permits, three sets of lights on one axis. No one puts this together in one week of vacation. September is holiday-free and cheap for the contractor. The children are coming back. Excavators too.
