Weekend Tube closures disrupt travel in Acton and Ealing
The District line is closed between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway, while the Piccadilly line is shut from Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge. Here are the replacement buses and alternatives.
There is no District line service between Turnham Green and Ealing Broadway on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 October. At the same time, the Piccadilly line is closed over a much longer section: from 1am on Saturday and throughout Sunday, no trains run between Hammersmith and Heathrow or Uxbridge. The restriction also covers the Friday and Saturday Night Tube periods.
This is a significant change for people in Acton, Ealing Common, North Ealing, South Ealing and Northfields. TfL is operating replacement buses, but the routes do not reproduce every Underground journey stop for stop. Trips may therefore take longer and the best interchange will depend on the destination.
For the closed District line section, replacement bus PL1 runs from Hammersmith via Turnham Green, Chiswick Park, Gunnersbury, Acton Town and Ealing Common to Ealing Broadway, then continues through South Ealing, Northfields and Boston Manor to Osterley. A second route, PL4, links Gunnersbury with Acton Town, Ealing Common, North Ealing and Hanger Lane before continuing towards Alperton, Sudbury Town, Sudbury Hill, South Harrow and Rayners Lane.
For the Piccadilly line closure, TfL also lists PL3 between Hammersmith and the Heathrow Terminal 2 bus station, and PL7 via Osterley, Hounslow and Hatton Cross to Heathrow Terminal 2. PL1 operates during the day and overnight, but overnight journeys do not stop at Chiswick Park or Gunnersbury. Some overnight journeys also serve Terminal 5.
Passengers travelling towards Uxbridge can use the Metropolitan line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge. For Heathrow, TfL recommends Elizabeth line services from central London and for transfers between terminals. On the District line disruption, tickets are being accepted on London Buses, according to TfL's current status information.
The safest approach is to check the exact journey shortly before leaving. Replacement buses may be busier than usual and their stops may not be directly beside station entrances. Travellers heading for Heathrow and anyone planning a late return on Saturday should allow extra time.
TfL provides live line information and a journey planner on its status page. The engineering work is scheduled for the whole weekend, so Sunday's trip should be planned separately even if Saturday's journey goes smoothly.
